— Coach Jeff Guy · STRENGTHLAX

MOST LACROSSE ATHLETES
ARE TRAINING
BACKWARDS.

After 20+ years coaching across every level of collegiate lacrosse, I kept seeing the same problem. I built STRENGTHLAX to fix it.

— What I Believe

The Philosophy Behind Everything.

Not motivational statements. Coaching principles built from two decades of watching athletes develop — and fail to develop — at every level of this game.

01

Fatigue is not athletic development.

02

Random workouts produce random development.

03

Standards over motivation. Stack the days.

04

Strength comes before power. Foundation comes before specialization.

05

Most athletes want step ten before mastering step one.

06

College coaches are projecting what an athlete can become — not simply evaluating what they are today.

07

Progression matters. Sequencing matters. The order is not optional.

08

Athletic development is a process — not an event.

— Why STRENGTHLAX Exists

I Kept Seeing The Same Problems.

Over 20+ years coaching collegiate lacrosse — Division II, Division III, an assistant role at Princeton, and now MCLA Division I — I recruited and developed hundreds of athletes. The same developmental mistakes appeared at every stop.

Athletes skipping foundational stages and wondering why they plateau. Athletes confusing effort with development. A fitness industry that rewards training that looks impressive over training that actually works.

"I have watched athletes train relentlessly for years — and not improve — because the sequencing was wrong. Hard work in the wrong direction is still the wrong direction."

I also learned something about recruiting that most families do not fully understand. College coaches are not only evaluating what an athlete can do today. They are projecting what that athlete will become. Physical preparation changes that projection significantly.

STRENGTHLAX was built to give serious lacrosse athletes a real system — not a collection of workouts, but a deliberate progression built on the principles I have used to develop athletes at every level of this game.

RANDOM WORKOUTS PRODUCE RANDOM DEVELOPMENT. STRUCTURE PRODUCES ATHLETES.

— Coaching Philosophy

Development Is Sequential. Most Programs Ignore That.

Development follows an order. Strength before power. Force absorption before force expression. Movement quality before load. That sequence is not arbitrary — it is the difference between an athlete who compounds over time and one who hits a ceiling they cannot explain.

Most lacrosse training skips it entirely. The result is athletes who look active but are not developing — accumulating fatigue faster than they are adapting.

Every STRENGTHLAX program is built around the correct sequence. Every phase builds on what came before it. That is how real development works.

— WHAT 20+ YEARS TAUGHT ME

The Lessons That Built This System.

LESSON 01

THE STRONGEST ATHLETES WERE ALWAYS THE MOST EXPLOSIVE

Every level I have coached it's a similar pattern. Athletes who built real foundational strength were harder to move, more explosive, and more durable through a full season. Strength is not the enemy of being explosive- a lack of it is.

LESSON 02

HARD WORK AND PRODUCTIVE WORK ARE NOT THE SAME THING

I have watched athletes train intensely for years and plateau because their effort was not directed correctly. Fatigue is easy to create. Real progress requires structure, patience, and the right sequence.  Not just intensity.

LESSON 03

PHYSICAL PREPARATION CHANGES RECRUITING PROJECTION

College coaches are projecting what an athlete will become not just evaluating what they are. An athlete who arrives physically underprepared signals a ceiling. An athlete who arrives physically developed signals potential. That distinction changes offers.

LESSON 04

CONSISTENCY SEPARATES ATHLETES MORE THAN TALENT DOES

The athletes who made the biggest physical jumps in my programs were rarely the most gifted. They were the most consistent and the most patient with the process. Development compounds when quality days are stacked over months and years.

— EXPERIENCE

Every Level of the Game.

Most coaches see athlete development from one vantage point. I have seen it from all levels of college lacrosse — which means I understand what athletes need at every stage of the process, not just one.
